Semiconductors and Solar CellsOur research spans the fields of semiconductor technology, silicon solar cells and photovoltaic solar energy. We aim to achieve a balance between basic science and applied engineering, with a focus on crystalline and multicrystalline silicon materials, and their application to solar cells. Activities within the group can be broken down into several inter-related areas, with the aim of gaining a better understanding of silicon as a semiconductor. The ultimate objective of our research is to contribute to the advancement of photovoltaic solar energy conversion. For a summary of our recent research achievements and projects, read our Research Report - 2004/2005 (word 130kB) Our semiconductor laboratories within the Dept of Engineering are shared with the Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems, where many other research programs on silicon photovoltaics and solar energy are conducted.
