What we compete in!

2005 World Solar Cycle Challenge
We are entered in the 2005 World Solar Cycle Challenge (WSCC) in South Australia, from 23 September to 2 October. More info available at the WSCC website.

The World Solar Cycle Challenge is a biennial event and is recognised as the world's leading solar assisted human powered vehicle event. Australia's unique race environment, spanning 1500 kilometres of sun-drenched South Australia from Ceduna to Adelaide, provides the ultimate test in endurance and stamina for race competitors.

Over 500 competitors, solar power enthusiasts, school and university teams are expected to participate in this event. In past events there have been representatives from the United States of America, United Kingdom, Russia, Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, South Africa and Malaysia as well a interstate and local competitors.

As a unique sport, solar cycle racing provides not only the thrill of competition but also significantly contributes to the advancement of engineering, aerodynamic design and the use of renewable energy for our future transportation. Solar cycles are either two or three wheeled with three categories defined by the number of wheels, standard or experimental models, and can be further divided by battery and solar cell type.

Solar cycle crews consist of at least two and not more than six riders, with no competitor able to ride for more than a two hour period. Racing concludes at sunset each day. If teams do not reach their daily control they are required to trailer their vehicles to the daily finish and must accept a time penalty based on the distance travelled.

The race will be conducted as follows:
Day 1: Ceduna – Elliston: 235km
Day 2: Elliston – Pt. Lincoln 212km
Day 3: Pt. Lincoln – Cleve 221km
Day 4: Cleve – Pt. Augusta 222km
